In the beautiful scenery at the Lake Thun in Switzerland, the BLS AG Company operates excursion ships. At the canal Lachenkanal, ships with up to 440 tons are maintained in a new dry dock. In the past, a lift system was used to lift the huge ships from the water; today this is done differently: In the new plant, the water is pumped off until the bottom side of the ship is bare.
For this interesting project, VETTER delivered an outdoor slewing jib crane of type BOSS via a Swiss partner. The enormous crane featuring a capacity of 12.5 tons and an outreach of 15 metres has been designed especially for this case. To learn more about the dry dock and the role of our crane, see the interesting time lapse video (Source: BLS AG).
