Electric equipment intended to be used in Ex zones has to comply with very stringent safety requirements. These fields of use can be found in power supply, chemical industry, offshore, etc. And in LNG terminals: Here, the liquefied natural gas (LNG) transported by ships is stored temporarily in large tanks and later gasified again to be fed into the onshore pipeline system.
In conjunction with our partner STAHL CraneSystems, we have already been providing Ex-proof cranes to LNG terminals all over the world – e.g. to Russia, Portugal, Spain, Finland, China, und America – for many years. While being exposed to wind and weather on the tanks all the time, the VETTER service cranes equipped with STAHL hoists are waiting for their task: The pumps in the tanks have to be lifted several times a year for maintenance purposes. A tricky operation which must not go wrong. Not only the hoists, control systems, and housings have to be designed correspondingly but also the crane system itself must meet stringent requirements. Accordingly, all components mentioned must be in Ex-proof design according to ATEX and according to IECEx for non-European countries. Only companies manufacturing products which meet these requirements are allowed to deliver them to such delicate areas and to mount them there – this is a job for experts!
